FRISCO, Texas – McNeese’s Morgan Catron, Abilene Christian’s Hannah Null and Nicholls’ Megan Landry are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. Softball Co-Pitchers of the Week – Hannah Null, Abilene Christian – Sr. – Highland Village, Texas; Megan Landry, Nicholls – Jr. – Pierre Part, La. Null tossed two complete games and held her opponents to a .180 batting average on a 2-0 week inside the circle. She opened the weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi striking out five en route to a 8-0 shutout over the Islanders. The senior from Highland Village, Texas, followed that up by surrendering just three hits in the series finale and fanning another five. She ended the week with an ERA of 0.50. Catron continued her dominance at the plate, going 6-of-12 on a 2-2 week for the Cowgirls. The senior from Mineola hit safely in all four games, including a .556 performance over the weekend against the Lady Demons. She led the Cowgirls to the series win in Saturday’s finale, going 3-of-4 from the plate and notching a double. For the week, Catron slugged .583, recorded three doubles and snagged a pair of bases. Null and Landry share the pitcher award, each earning two wins on the weekend. Null went 2-0 in a three-game series this weekend against the Islanders to lead the Wildcats (12-17, 6-6 SLC) to the series win. They host Baylor on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then will travel to Thibodaux to face Nicholls (23-10, 9-3 SLC) this weekend beginning Friday at 4 p.m. Landry tallied her two wins against Central Arkansas (17-15, 8-4 SLC). This is her third award of the season and second in three weeks. Softball Hitter of the Week – Morgan Catron, McNeese – 1B/DP – Sr. – Mineola, Texas Catron becomes the first player to win back-to-back weekly awards this season. She helped lead the Cowgirls (24-12, 7-5 SLC) to a series win over league leaders Northwestern State (21-11, 9-3 SLC). McNeese hosts nationally ranked LSU on Tuesday in a game that will broadcast on Cox Sports before welcoming Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend (9-25-1, 1-11 SLC). First pitch for tomorrow’s game is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. CT. Landry earned wins in both of her starts against Central Arkansas, allowing just one run while striking out eight in 12.2 innings of work. She started the weekend with a complete game four-hitter in the Colonels’ 2-1 victory. In the finale, she pitched 5.2 innings and fanned five batters toward a 5-0 win.
