Interstate 84 reopens to most vehicles

first_imgOne lane of eastbound Interstate 84 on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge reopened at 9 p.m. today after a landslide near milepost 61 had all eastbound lanes closed since Wednesday evening. The lane, which opened three miles west of Hood River, will allow all vehicles through except for oversized loads wider than 16 feet, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.ODOT officials said they plan to announce today when the other eastbound lane can reopen.“We’ll reopen the rest of the interstate as soon as it is safe to do so,” ODOT Region 1 Manager Jason Tell said Sunday in a news release. “Trucks and excavators will continue to work until all rocks have been moved.”The closure of eastbound I-84 diverted traffic onto state Highway 14 on the Washington side of the Gorge as crews worked to remove the roughly 2,000 cubic yards of rock and debris.last_img
