India vs Australia: Ambati Rayudu reported for suspect bowling action

first_imgIndia batsman Ambati Rayudu has been reported for suspect bowling action during the first of the ongoing three-match ODI series between India and Australia in Sydney on Saturday.Rayudu bowled two overs during India’s 34-run defeat as Virat Kohli was forced to use the 33-year-old’s services after Mohammed Shami walked off the field with a niggle.Kohli, unsure of Shami’s return, needed someone to bowl the overs. He threw the ball to Rayudu as India went in with an extra batsman in Dinesh Karthik ahead of Kedar Jadhav, who generally rolls over his arms for a few overs, for the first ODI.”The match officials’ report, which was handed over to the India team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 33-year-old off-spinner’s bowling action,” an ICC release read.”Rayudu’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.”He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Rayudu is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known.”Rayudu, not a regular bowler by any stretch of the imagination, came on to bowl his right-arm off breaks in the 22nd over. With Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja looking good, it was a risk for India. He went only for 3 runs in his first over but his action made social media sit up and take notice.Rayudu finished with two overs as Mohammed Shami returned and completed his full quota of 10 overs.advertisementIndia conceded 288 runs after a late push by Marcus Stoinis helped Australia take 93 runs from their last 10 overs. India were unable to gun down the target despite Rohit Sharma making a 129-ball 133.India were jolted early by Australia’s new-ball bowlers Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff. While the latter removed opener Shikhar Dhawan for 0, Richardson, who was named the Man of the Match for his figures of 4 for 26, dismissed Rayudu for 0 and captain Kohli for 3 in a space of three deliveries. Also Read | Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4th slowest Indian to reach 100 ODI wicketsAlso Read | Resting World Cup-bound fast bowlers in IPL 2019 wrong thought process: NehraAlso Read | Harbhajan Singh bats for Rishabh Pant’s inclusion in India ODI squadAslo Read | India vs Australia: MS Dhoni is India’s ideal No.4, says Rohit SharmaAlso See:last_img
