Fair offers tips PICO RIVERA – Beginning at 9:30 a.m. today, students interested in learning more about educational opportunities offered by various military academies can get plenty of first-hand information at the Military Academy Fair, sponsored by Rep. Grace Napolitano. The event is at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7734, 9128 Bermudez St. Representatives from the West Point Academy, the California National Guard, the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Coast Guard and the California Maritime Academy will be present. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.; the program starts at 10 a.m. and continues until noon. Holiday day camp registration opens NORWALK – The public is invited to a physicians’ forum from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the Cerritos College Student Center, 11110 Alondra Blvd. The forum is sponsored by the college’s Project HOPE (Health Opportunities and Pipeline to Education) in conjunction with the California Latino Medical Association and the Future Latino Doctors National Network. The event will include a panel of physicians who will share their experiences in the medical field. During the event, the audience will be given information about careers in the medical field and will have an opportunity to ask questions. WHITTIER – Registration is now open for the city’s holiday day camp, to be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday through Friday from Dec. 19 to 30 at Palm Park Activities Center, 5703 Palm Ave. The fee is $80 per week per child. Straight Talk program slated LA MIRADA – You can get a lot of straight talk on complicated subjects via the city’s Straight Talk/La Mirada program, which offers ongoing individual, family and couples counseling and support groups. Anger Management For Teens is an ongoing support group that helps teens develop effective ways of expressing anger. A teen support group meets weekly. Parenting skills class is a 10-week class focusing on helping parents of school-age children develop good parenting skills. The class is on-going and can be joined at any time. There is also a class for parents of pre-teens. Other ongoing sessions include an anger management support group for adults, a men’s support group, a support group for women age 60 and older, and a group for women over 30.
