Five hours after an actress was shot to death at Phil Spector’s mansion, the chauffeur who is the key witness at his murder trial told officers in a videotaped interview seen in court Tuesday that the music producer, with gun in hand, had told him: “I think I killed somebody.” Defense attorneys have been challenging whether the chauffeur, Adriano De Souza, a Brazilian immigrant with a heavy accent, clearly understood and related the potentially incriminating statement. Prosecutors won a bid to play the tape to show that even under pressure in the immediate aftermath he was able to tell the story clearly. Jurors also heard testimony that police fired a Taser electronic stun gun at Spector before he was taken into custody, apparently because he was uncooperative. But a paramedic who saw him at the jail testified that Spector “had no medical complaints” and declined treatment. De Souza was the only person to see Spector in the moments after the shooting. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
